...ELTAM's purpose, aims, objectives and goals...

Continuing the work of the former Union of Foreign Language teachers, part of which was the Association of English Language Teachers, ELTAm is a forum which unites English language teachers of Macedonia from both the state and the private sector for the purpose of their professional development. ELTAM is nonprofit and non-governmental association of citizens which aims at raising the standards of ELT in the country by:

The main bodies of the Association are the General Assembly, the President and the Executive Committee. The General Assembly, which is made up of all the members of the Association, elects the organs of the Association, proposes the programme for the current year and adopts the financial report at its annual meeting.

The President, who is elected by the General Assembly with a four-year-mandate, represents the Association and signs all the act, contracts and financial documents. The President coordinates the work of the Executive Committee and makes sure that the programme of the Association is implemented.

The Executive Committee prepares the sessions of the General Assembly, drafts the Statute and is entitled to supervise the work of the Association.

• 1998 April,22,23,24 - English language teachers' conference at "Dimitar Miladinov" Primary school - Skopje (financed by SETREC & USIS);

• 1999 May,15 - National Conference of English language teachers "Teaching methods for the 21st century", "Dimitar Miladinov" Primary school - Skopje (financed by SETREC & USIS); - Meeting of teachers, decision to establish ELTAM as a legal entity;

• 1999 July - Constitutive meeting of ELTAM; ELTAM becomes legal entity with a special Act for establishing associations of citizens (legal services sponsored by the Open Society Institute); Affiliation with IATEFL;
